Improving Schoolwork  Through  Executive Functioning Skills

With AionMetis, the mission statement is simple - to help students struggling with their studies due to poor executive functioning and organizational skills. Giving students a comprehensive tool to cut out the middleman - teaching these skills by example while they focus on their classwork.

The goal having been established, we set out to explore what could be done to achieve it. After consulting with leading remedial teachers and behavioral experts, we have designed a system that boils down to two parts-

AION - Aion's job is to learn information, both from student interactions with it and with Metis. Aion is driven by a powerful cognitive model that takes into consideration the student’s rate of work, complaints, and teacher’s remarks. With this information, Aion produces schedules to help students organize their time effectively to both improve their grade and retain their time.

METIS- Metis meanwhile is the coach and interactive arm of AionMetis. It takes in the information from Aion and helps students implement the schedule as well as report any difficulties in real time. Research has consistently shown that this kind of in context help is the most effective way of correcting bad study habits and developing powerful executive functioning abilities. Metis also receives grades and statistics from Aion and feeds results back so that Aion can adjust its schedules accordingly.

The combination of the two creates a technological ecosystem, should the student choose to take part, that will provide a roadmap to improving their academic work and teaching by example skills that will serve them well in the future. Regardless of where that future may lay.
